Bolt Diameter

The influence of bolt diameter on bolt force and M — 9r curve of connection was investigated using numerical results obtained by inputting db = 22 mm and 19 mm for bolt diameter. Figure 10 shows the comparisons of distribution of prying force and M — 9r curve of connection for the two cases. From Figure 10(a), it is observed that (1) at the beginning of loading, prying force develops very similar in both connection models; (2) but near the ultimate state, a prying force is increased when bolts with larger diameter is used.

From Figure 10(b), it is seen that even though the M — Qr curves are almost similar to each other irrespective of the size of bolt diameter in the elastic region, the connection moment can be increased by increasing the size of bolt diameter in plastic region.
