Bridge Resistance Models

The load carrying capacity of a structure depends on its geometry (number of girders, girder spacing, and span length), connections, and most of all, the resistance of its components. Moreover, the resistance can be affected by uncertainties in strength of materials, dimensions and analysis. Therefore, the resistance of girders, Rgirder, can be considered as a product of three factors representing strength of materials, dimensions and analysis, and consequently, as a product of random variables, it can be considered as lognormally distributed.
