. English Bond
English bond comprises alternating courses of headers and stretchers. This bond is very strong, as alternating complete courses of headers eliminate any continuous internal vertical straight collar joints within the wall. Accordingly, an internal collar joint only appears on alternate courses between the front and back of the stretcher courses.

English bond tends to have quite a monotonous, repetitive appearance and is most commonly used where strength is favoured over aesthetics, such as for retaining walls.
