Flemish bond, sometimes known as ‘Dutch bond’, comprises alternating headers and stretchers in the same
course. While it is not by any means a weak bond, it is not as strong as English bond because internal vertical straight collar joints in the wall’s height are not completely eliminated. Flemish bond is more pleasing on the eye than English bond so it tends to be used where a decorative appearance is more important than just strength.
