Bags of pre-bagged dry mortar are available from builders’ merchants in 25-kg bags and have a number of advantages:

• Batching of dry materials takes place at the factory so mix proportions are consistent.

• Delivery and/or stockpiling of loose materials can be avoided.

• Bagged materials can be offloaded more quickly and cleanly than loose materials.

• Bagged dry mortar is quite an economic method on small jobs and using it also reduces waste. This is, however, unlikely to be the case on large projects.

Smaller-sized bags (5kg for example) are available from DIY outlets but tend to be sand and cement mixes, with all the disadvantages associated with a lack of lime.
