Selecting a Base Line

The first setting-out task is to select a base line from which all the setting-out for the garage will be derived and established. From the plan (see Fig 50), the garage is 5m long x 3m wide. It is parallel to the existing building on the site and is set 1m to the left of it. The front of the new garage is to be set back from the front of the existing building by a

distance of 2m. The simplest and most convenient base line will be the left-hand side wall of the existing building.
