Setting-Out: Stage 3

The next stage is to establish the remaining two corner pegs by measuring 3m from pegs ‘A’ and ‘B’ whilst at the same time squaring from wall line ‘A’-‘B’ so as to be able to insert pegs ‘C’ and ‘D’ in their correct positions. The simplest and quickest method of squaring the short wall lines is to use a long-arm square, but this is not the most accurate method. The more scientific and accurate alternative is to make use of the ‘3:4:5 method’ (see Fig 51).

Ensure that the tops of pegs ‘C’ and ‘D’ are level with pegs ‘A’ and ‘B’, then hammer a clout nail into the top/centre of both pegs ‘C’ and ‘D’ and attach ranging lines to complete the front and back wall lines.
