. SIMPLE COPINGS TO BOUNDARY WALLS
There are three reasons for providing a distinct finish to the top of boundary walls: first, to stabilize the top of the wall
and improve its structural integrity; second, to protect the top of the wall from the ravages of weather; and third, to provide a decorative and aesthetically pleasing finish.
The materials used for finishing off the top of the wall must, therefore, be strong, weather-resistant and reasonably pleasing to the eye. A wide variety of materials can be used to finish off the tops of walls and piers, including brick, pre-cast concrete, stone, reconstituted stone, slate, and so on, but brick (including its use in simple combination with other materials) and pre-cast concrete will be the main materials for discussion here (see Fig 207).
