TUNNEL FORMWORK SYSTEM
The use of tunnel forms in North America is a relatively new process, but has been seen in several cities in Europe for a number of years. The growing popularity of the tunnel forms can be attributed to the high productivity that results in constructing buildings that have repetitive concrete rooms using tunnel forms. With the walls and slabs being cast monolithically, separate vertical and horizontal formwork systems are not required.
A tunnel form system is an ideal method to construct buildings with repetitive elements or rooms. Tunnel forms can be applied to both low – and high-rise buildings that require repetitive room design. Tunnel formwork has been used in the United States to construct resort hotels, condominiums, apartments, retirement homes, office buildings, hospitals, townhouses, and prisons. Once used on a particular project, they can be reused for continued return on investment.
