Quality — From Theory to Reality

8.1 Introduction

In organizations seeking to develop a privileged position at the local and global levels, the processes involved in controlling and assur­ing the quality of a product have become matters of critical impor­tance to business survival. This is the impetus behind the increasing demand for, and interest in the most effecive methods for achieving, Total Quality Management (TQM). This chapter^s focus is on quality management systems in construction projects, and the the respon­sibilities of various parties for their share in ensuring achievement and maintenance of project-wide TQM. Any organization aiming to to grow its business in today’s open markets, competing and coop­erating with other organizations in sharing local and international markets, has a stake in ensuring TQM throughout their work.
