Dead loads for ground-supported storage tanks use the same nomenclature as the dead loads in the previous sections. Here we will discuss the individual load components that make up the dead loads. They are separated here by their actual use and design.
vertically applied through the wall of the tank, as well as the fluid load from the test medium. The fluid load acts through the bottom of the tank, not vertically through the wall of the tank. Therefore, the metal dead load and the fluid load must be used separately by design. The test medium shall be as specified in the contract documents or as specified by the owner. Unless otherwise specified, a minimum specific gravity of 1.0 shall be used for the test medium.
The load and design principle of storage tanks, with examples, is illustrated
in Chapter 5.
